United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees Appoints Javed Afridi, Chairman Of Peshawar Zalmi As Youth Ambassador

Peshawar Zalmi and Zalmi Foundation Chairman Mr. Javed Afridi were named UNHCR Pakistan’s Refugee Youth Ambassador on 18th December 2019 at the first Global Refugee Forum at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. “I feel elated, privileged, and inspired by this opportunity to raise my voice in favor of refugee youth and serve humanity,” said Javed Afridi after being presented with the honor by UNHCR Representative in Pakistan, Ms. Ruvendrini Menikdiwela. Javed Afridi is a role model for youth, and his awareness of refugees' problems and solutions will be of great help, said Indrika Ratwatte, Regional Director UNHCR for Asia and Pacific. Javed Afridi said he would do his best to highlight the problems of refugees and play an active role in resolving them. On the occasion, Javed Afridi announced to give jobs to twenty-five refugees and Zalmi Foundation to provide training to more than 50 refugees. Javed Afridi was awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan for his philanthropic efforts and sports diplomacy work earlier in the year. Javed Afridi continues his campaign to achieve peace through sports as well as engaging youth in healthy activities.  “I’ll engage Afghan refugee youth in sports because sports bring people and nations together,” Mr. Afridi added
