Zalmi Women League Trials

Project Details

The Zalmi Women League Trials, held from 20th December to 23rd December 2024, marked a historic milestone in women’s sports in Pakistan. Organized across seven divisions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa—Peshawar, Mardan, Malakand, Hazara, Kohat, Bannu, and DI Khan—the trials aimed to scout and nurture cricketing talent among young women for Pakistan’s first-ever Women Cricket League 2024.

The trials saw an overwhelming response, with over 1,000+ girls from colleges, universities, and local communities actively participating. Each divisional trial was designed to provide equal opportunities for aspiring female cricketers to demonstrate their skills. From fast bowlers to hard-hitting batters and sharp fielders, the trials unearthed exceptional talent across all divisions.

Peshawar: As the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Peshawar saw the highest number of participants, showcasing competitive spirit and diverse talent.

Mardan: Known for its vibrant sports culture, Mardan highlighted promising young cricketers who impressed selectors.

Malakand: Girls from Malakand displayed immense passion and skill, breaking barriers and stereotypes.

Hazara: The scenic Hazara region contributed technically sound and disciplined players.

Kohat: Known for its resilience, Kohat’s players brought flair and determination to the trials.

Bannu: Participants from Bannu exhibited raw talent and a hunger to excel.

DI Khan: Cricketers from DI Khan brought unique energy and untapped potential to the event.

At the conclusion of the trials in each division, divisional teams were formed. These teams will represent their respective regions in the Zalmi Women League 2024, marking a monumental step in the promotion of women’s cricket in the province.

This groundbreaking initiative was made possible through a strategic partnership between Zalmi Foundation and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government. It was conducted under the umbrella of the provincial administration and in collaboration with esteemed partners. The Zalmi Women League Trials served as a transformative platform, promoting gender equality and inclusion in sports. By engaging over 1,000 young women, the event inspired a new wave of confidence and enthusiasm for cricket, bridging gaps in societal norms and paving the way for professional growth.

The Zalmi Women League Trials represent a bold step toward inclusivity and empowerment, embodying the vision of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s government and its partners. By bringing communities together and encouraging women to pursue sports, these trials have set a precedent for progressive change in Pakistan. This initiative underscores the commitment of all stakeholders to foster talent, promote peace through sports, and empower the women of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to dream big and achieve greatness.
